Coach Don Willadsen’s Position:

“I have many friends in Law Enforcement and family who served honorably as Military Police. I support our LEO’s and I will never defund the police. Defunding the police is a reckless proposal and will cause many problems in Coon Rapids beyond a massive increase in crimes” – Coach Don Willadsen

Coon Rapids Residency

Coach Don’s opponent has lived in Coon Rapids for a little over 1 year

Coach Don Willadsen and his family have been residents of Coon Rapids for 13 years.  Coach Don believes it’s important to live and be active in the community to understand the culture, heritage, and citizens before becoming a civic leader.

Metropolitan Council, Better known as the MET

Coach Don Willadsen will not support the MET’s agenda to add 14,000+ residents to Coon Rapids by 2040. This is irresponsible. This agenda will create chaotic traffic, force infrastructure expansion, and overhauling, increase crime, increase the need for more first responders, cause an overhaul to our water treatment facility, and much more. All of this will result in massive tax increases. Coach Don is opposed to high-rise buildings because that’s how the MET Council intends increasing the number of residents.

Northdale Shopping Center (Jensen’s Grocery Store Location)

Coach Don will NEVER support high-rise structures in the Northdale Shopping Center or any other location in Coon Rapids. Adding high-rise structures is the only way the MET council will be able to add 14,000 residents to the city by 2040.

Coach Don does support Senior Housing, single family homes, townhomes, tiny homes, Condos, and Local Business Growth and Commerce. Coach Don is a strong supporter of tiny home developments which can be very affordable for young people buying their first home. It also helps our young people to build wealth, enjoy home ownership, and have self-worth and responsibility. Starter homes are not 2000 square feet like some builders think. Ask yourself, can your son or daughter afford a four or five hundred-thousand-dollar new construction home? Many can’t.

Section 8 Housing (Low Income/High Density)

Affordable housing is a term that’s been used to covertly to describe government housing projects, better known as Section 8 housing. Coach Don has had enough of the government keeping people in poverty. We need lower taxes, local commerce, local jobs, and real affordable housing for people. Coach Don lived in Section 8 housing. He knows it’s mentally hard on people to get away from the government. Typically, there are no jobs around Section 8 housing structures, making it hard to find work. Coach Don wants to lift people out of poverty, help find them sustainable work, help them build self-worth, and build personal wealth. Coach Don is a strong supporter of tiny homes, as these can be affordable and build equity. Coach Don will NEVER support a Section 8 building anywhere in Coon Rapids. Coach Don strongly supports Section 42 Senior Housing, so our Seniors have a great place to live out their golden years in peace.

Don’t be fooled by the term “Affordable Housing”

Employment

Coach Don is a working man, in the field, helping people every day. He sweats, get cuts and bruises, and he gets dirty working hard for people who’ve had major disasters.  He doesn’t sit behind a desk and figure out ways to spend our tax money. He’s not a lifelong government employee like his opponent. He’s also been a community volunteer for youth sports over 24 seasons. Like many of you he works hard and serves his community, so families, children, and how our money is spent is very important to him. We must treat the money our city collects the same way we do our households, fiscally responsibly.
